Should I Trust a Man Who Says His "Wife" Is Only for Papers?
I am 27 years old, and for the past eight months, a man has been treating me like the woman of his dreams. He pays my bills without complaining. He checks on me every day. He speaks about our future with so much confidence that sometimes I catch myself believing every single word. The problem? He is 48 years old... and he is currently living in Canada with another woman. According to him, that woman is only helping him with his papers. He says they have been living together for years, but insists there is nothing between them anymore. He keeps telling me, "Once I come back to Nigeria, I'll end everything there and marry you properly." I want to believe him. But my heart refuses to rest. If she truly means nothing to him, why are they still living together after all these years? Sometimes I wonder if I am being prepared to become a second option without realizing it. My family keeps encouraging me because he is financially comfortable. They tell me a responsible man is hard to find and that I shouldn't overthink it. But this is my life, not theirs. The age difference also scares me. He is old enough to be much further ahead in life, while I am still trying to build mine. I keep asking myself whether I am walking into love... or walking into a lifetime of regret. I don't want to become the woman another woman cries because of. I don't want to spend my marriage wondering who my husband is really calling or where his heart truly belongs. Yet, I also fear that I might walk away from someone who genuinely loves me and has been nothing but kind to me. So I'm asking strangers because emotions are making it difficult for me to think clearly... If you were in my shoes, would you wait for him and trust his promises... or would you walk away before it's too late?
or would you walk away before it's too late?
