Should I Still Give Her the Gift After What I Overheard? 💔
I'm 27, a dietitian at a hospital in my hometown, engaged, and I live with my grandma. I have a friend I've always called my sister. We've been friends since primary school, and she stood by me the day we buried my mum. Her birthday was yesterday. She just left a six-year relationship, has a two-year-old daughter, and her ex took the phone she was using. Her father is old and sick, so money is tight at home. I wanted to put a smile on her face, so I bought her a ₦350,000 phone and a perfume. I called to ask where she was so I could surprise her at work (she's a cashier at a boutique in the mall). "Hello o, where you dey?" "I dey work." I didn't hang up, and she thought the call had ended. Then I heard her laughing with her colleagues about the dark spots on my face, saying I look like I have dirt on me. One of them said, "Is that not the friend whose fiancé drives a BMW? The doctor?" She replied, "Doctor ke? She's just a dietitian." I'm so hurt. I thought she saw our sisterhood the way I do. Should I still give her the gift because I already bought it? Or should I cut her off?
Or should I cut her off?
