My Sister's Jealousy Cost Me the Man I Was Supposed to Marry

Good morning, EUCARL readers. I have carried this pain in silence for so long that even writing these words feels like opening an old wound. A friend introduced me to this platform, and after reading the stories and responses here, I finally found the courage to speak about something that has broken my heart in ways I never thought possible. People often say losing one’s parents is the greatest pain a person can endure. I believed that too, until I learned that betrayal by the sister you trusted most can hurt even more. I am 31 years old, the second of five girls. We lost our mother first, then our father a few years later. We grew up fast, with no parents to guide us. Our eldest sister became the head of the family, but instead of keeping us united, she allowed jealousy and division to grow. We stopped being sisters and became strangers. Still, I worked hard to build a better life. Then I met a man who was kind, respectful, and loving. For the first time in years, I felt at home again. When he proposed, I cried with joy. I could not wait to introduce him to my sisters. That was my mistake. One sister suddenly became very involved in my relationship. She called often, asked for updates, and offered to help with the wedding. I thought she was excited for me. Instead, she was destroying everything. Without my knowledge, she contacted my fiancé repeatedly and poisoned his mind against me. She told him I was after his money, that I was cheating, and that I was pretending to love him. Fake accounts, edited screenshots, and false messages followed. Slowly, he began to doubt me. One day he asked, “Tell me the truth... Is your sister covering up your affairs?” I was shattered. I confronted my sisters, but no one admitted anything. Our eldest sister refused to get involved and told us to settle it ourselves. Months later, the wedding was cancelled. He said he still loved me, but he no longer had peace. I was devastated. Then, six months later, the truth came out during an argument. My sister admitted everything. She said she was jealous because I was the first among us to marry a good man. She confessed to creating fake accounts, spreading lies, and ruining my relationship. When I confronted her, she simply said, “I was jealous.” Just two words. Two words that destroyed my future. The worst part is that our eldest sister still says we should move on because “she has apologized.” But can an apology bring back the man I lost? Can it erase the pain? Last year, my ex got married. I wished him well, then cried until morning. We are still five sisters, but we are no longer a family. Sometimes I wonder if losing our parents was not the real tragedy. Maybe the real tragedy was losing each other too. If your own sibling deliberately destroyed your relationship out of jealousy, would you ever forgive them... or are there some betrayals that should never be forgiven?
