My Curiosity Is Starting to Control My Life
My Curiosity Is Starting to Control My Life I think my biggest problem in life is curiosity. Whenever I hear about something new, I feel an almost uncontrollable urge to research it. But it rarely ends there. After learning everything I can, I often start feeling like I have to experience it myself just to truly understand it. For example, when my mum was diagnosed with diabetes, I spent hours reading about the condition. Before long, I had convinced myself that I would eventually develop it too since it runs in my family. The fear became so intense that I almost wished I would get it early just to stop worrying about it. It got so bad that I eventually had to go for therapy. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. One day, I overheard people talking about how difficult it was to stop masturbating. My curiosity kicked in. I wanted to understand why people found it so addictive, so I tried it twice. To my surprise, I didn't enjoy it or feel anything special. I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Later, I became curious about alcohol. I drank it once and didn't like the feeling. Then I watched pornography because I wanted to know why people were so obsessed with it, but I found it disturbing and never wanted to watch it again. At another point, I started reading about lesbian relationships because I wanted to understand why some women preferred women over men. My curiosity went as far as chatting with a lesbian on a dating app, and I almost agreed to meet up just to experience it for myself. Thankfully, I got caught before it happened, and I cancelled the plan. That was about two years ago, but hearing someone discuss it recently has brought the curiosity back. Now it's something else. Yesterday, I saw a woman talking about sex toys online, and now I can't stop wondering what they're actually like. A while back, I also became curious about weed-infused toffee. I even gave someone on campus money to buy it for me, but the person disappeared with my money. The strange part is that I don't usually become addicted to any of these things. Once I've satisfied my curiosity, I completely lose interest. It's like my mind immediately moves on to the next thing that catches my attention. I've spent a lot of time asking myself why I'm like this. Why do I always feel the need to experience things personally before I can truly understand them? Why isn't simply learning about them enough? I'm posting this because I'd genuinely like advice. Has anyone else experienced something like this? How do you redirect this kind of curiosity into something healthy and productive? For context, I live alone and work a regular office job, so I'd really appreciate practical suggestions that could help channel this curiosity into something that adds value to my life instead of constantly tempting me to experiment.
