I’M 21 AND I JUST MATCHED WITH A 40-YEAR-OLD MAN… AM I MAKING A MISTAKE?

I’m 21, and a few days ago, I matched with a 40-year-old man on a dating app. At first, I didn’t even take it seriously because the age difference was honestly shocking. But somehow, we started talking. And that’s where my problem started. He’s actually been incredibly nice to me. He’s respectful, he listens when I talk, our conversations flow naturally, and I don’t feel like I’m forcing anything. He has two children, and he’s been open about his life and past relationships. The strange thing is that I actually enjoy talking to him. We can chat for hours about work, family, Nigerian politics, relationships and even random things like food and music. He doesn’t pressure me for sex or ask me for inappropriate pictures. He just seems… normal. We’ve now agreed to meet in person. But the closer the day gets, the more nervous I become. I keep asking myself, “What exactly does a 40-year-old man want with a 21-year-old girl?” My friends are already warning me. One told me, “Please don’t let sweet words make you ignore the age difference.” Another said there’s a reason a man his age is interested in someone my age. And honestly, I don't know what to think. Maybe I’m overthinking because I’ve never dated someone this much older than me. Or maybe this nervous feeling is my intuition trying to tell me something. He wants us to meet soon, but now I’m scared. Is a 19-year age gap automatically a red flag, or can two adults genuinely connect despite the age difference? And if you were me, would you still go for that first meeting?
