I Funded His Future, Then He Married Someone Else
When I met my boyfriend, he was struggling financially but had big dreams. He wanted to finish his degree and build a better life for himself. I was already working, so whenever he needed help with registration, fees, accommodation or even food, I helped. Eventually, I was paying almost everything because I believed we were building a future together. He always told me that once he graduated and got a job, he'd never forget everything I'd done for him. I supported him for years. There were times I couldn't afford things for myself because I had to make sure he had what he needed for school. When he finally graduated, I was probably more proud than anyone. I genuinely thought the next step would be for us to get married. Instead, he started becoming distant. Then one day I found out he was engaged to another woman. I couldn't understand how the man whose degree I had helped pay for could suddenly build his future with someone else. He told me that he appreciated everything I'd done, but that love wasn't something he could repay me for. I feel stupid because I wasn't helping him because I expected a salary or a reward I did it because I loved him and believed he was my future husband. Now he's married, has a good job and the life we once talked about. I confronted him and asked him how he could do this after everything I'd sacrificed. I even asked him to at least pay me back some of the money I'd spent on his education because I'm currently struggling financially and he has a good job now. His response broke me. He said, "I never asked you to do those things for me." Then he blocked me everywhere. No apology, no repayment, nothing. Now I'm sitting here struggling while he is living the life we once planned together. Sometimes I get so angry that I have thoughts I don't even recognise as my own. I have caught myself thinking about doing something to ruin his happiness or even consulting someone to make his life miserable, and that scares me because I've never been that kind of person. Then I remember that destroying his life won't give me back the years, money or opportunities I sacrificed. I'll never heal from this one. 💔
