He Made Me Believe I Was Spiritually Cursed... Until I Discovered the Truth
U dated this man for one year and nine months, and if there's one thing I can say with confidence, it's that I genuinely loved him with everything I had. I saw a future with him, so whenever he said there was a problem, I believed we would face it together. One day, he came to me looking deeply troubled. He said a native doctor had revealed that I had a spiritual husband who was responsible for all the setbacks in his life. According to him, this spiritual husband was destroying his business, frustrating his progress, and standing against our relationship. He told me that if I truly loved him, I needed to visit the same native doctor and do whatever was required to separate myself from this spiritual husband. I was devastated. I had never heard anything like that before, but because I loved him and desperately wanted our relationship to work, I didn't argue. I believed him. At the time, I was working as a cleaner. My salary wasn't much, but I started saving every little amount I could. When my savings weren't enough, I borrowed money just to complete ₦200,000. Every naira mattered to me, yet I willingly spent it on the rituals, materials, and everything the native doctor demanded. I wasn't doing it because I believed in those things; I was doing it because I was terrified of losing the man I loved. I was willing to sacrifice everything to save what I thought was our future. After all the rituals and cleansing, things seemed normal again. Our relationship became peaceful, and I convinced myself that the sacrifice had worked. I felt relieved, believing I had finally defeated whatever was supposedly fighting us. Then, early this year, everything came crashing down. He called me and said there was another revelation. This time, he claimed we could never get married because my spiritual husband had blocked my womb and that I would never be able to conceive. Those words shattered me. I cried for days. I questioned my entire existence. I started imagining a future where I would never become a mother. The fear was unbearable because I believed every word he said. After everything I had already sacrificed, I couldn't understand why the problem still remained. Out of confusion and desperation, I called his mother because she already knew about everything that had happened. For more than three weeks, she spoke with me and tried to understand the situation. Then one day, she told me something that completely changed everything. She said her son never made any enquiry about my womb. She advised me to question him properly because something wasn't adding up. When I confronted him, the truth finally came out. He had lied. There was no revelation about me being unable to have children. He simply made it up. I cannot describe the pain I felt in that moment. It wasn't just the lie—it was the realization that someone I loved so deeply had manipulated my emotions, my faith, and my fears. He made me believe I was spiritually cursed. He made me spend money I didn't have. He watched me cry over a future he knew wasn't true. He allowed me to carry the weight of shame, fear, and hopelessness for something that never existed. Walking away from that relationship was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made, but it also became the beginning of my healing. Today, I finally have peace. For the first time in a long time, I can breathe without feeling like I'm carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. But some wounds don't disappear overnight. Every now and then, memories of that relationship come flooding back. I remember the money I lost, the emotional trauma I endured, the sleepless nights, the endless tears, and the way I blamed myself for things that were never my fault. Whenever those memories return, my chest becomes heavy, and I find myself crying all over again. I still wonder how someone who claimed to love me could convince me that I was the source of his downfall, only to discover that it was all built on lies. I'm slowly healing, but I don't think I'll ever forget what that relationship did to me.
