Having Trust Issues in My 5-Year Relationship — Should I Stay or Walk Away?
I honestly don't know how to start this, but something has been eating me up for years. I have been in a relationship with my girlfriend for five years now, but I still struggle with trust issues because of something that happened at the beginning of our relationship. Back then, I discovered on her phone that she had accepted proposals from three different men, while at the same time turning me down once. Seeing those messages really hurt me. Despite what I found, I still chose to continue the relationship because I genuinely loved her and believed things could work out between us. However, ever since then, I have never been able to trust her completely. Anytime she goes out, my mind starts racing. I find myself wondering if she's meeting another guy or talking to someone else behind my back. Even when there is no evidence, the thoughts keep coming. The truth is that I am never fully at peace. What happened years ago still affects the way I see the relationship today. The problem is that I love her deeply, and because of that, I find it very difficult to end the relationship. At the same time, I don't know how much longer I can continue living with these doubts and suspicions. Five years is a long time, and sometimes I wonder if I should have moved on from what happened at the beginning. Other times, I feel that trust, once broken, is never truly the same again. Right now, I feel stuck between love and fear. I would really appreciate honest advice. Should I continue fighting for this relationship and try to rebuild trust, or is it a sign that I should let go and move on with my life? Have you ever stayed in a relationship after your trust was broken? How did it turn out? Please share your advice, I will be in the comments section.
