My Friend Lied About Being Sick When I Needed Her Most

When my mum passed away, I expected my very close friend to stand by me. She couldn’t attend the one-week celebration because of work, and I understood. But on the day of the burial, I kept looking through the crowd, hoping to see her. I wanted her beside me, holding my hands and giving me strength as I read my tribute. Sadly, she never showed up. Almost a month later, she called to explain that she had been seriously ill and admitted to the hospital for days. I felt sorry for her until I discovered through her colleagues that the whole story was a lie. She was never sick or admitted anywhere. What hurt me most was that she could lie so easily when I was grieving and needed my friend the most. Not long after, she called to complain about her marriage and her plans for a possible divorce. She eventually asked me for a huge amount of money and wanted me to help her find somewhere to get a loan. This is not even the first time she has disappointed me. Years ago, at my dad’s funeral, she collected her sister’s funeral contribution from me, promising to pay it back. Till today, that money has not been returned. Honestly, I am beginning to question this friendship. She is always taking from me, but when I need her support, she disappears or comes up with excuses. I don’t understand how someone can treat a friend this way without feeling any guilt. Am I wrong to consider ending this friendship after everything that has happened? If you were in my shoes, would you still entertain her?
