Can a Man Who Never Defended His Wife Ever Change?
I already have a little daughter. When she was just 7 months old, I made the painful decision to leave my husband because I couldn't take it anymore. Today, my baby is over 2 years old, and since the day I left, he has barely taken responsibility for her. Every expense, every sleepless night, every hospital visit, and every need has been on me. Now, after all this time, he suddenly wants us back. Part of me wants my daughter to grow up with both parents, so I didn't shut the door completely. Instead, I gave him a few conditions that would make me feel safe enough to return. Rather than reassure me, he simply said he would "think about it." That response broke my heart. My husband is the first son in his family, yet he has never been able to stand up for me. He is so afraid of his mother and siblings that they treat me however they like. Imagine being insulted by his own 16-year-old younger brother, right in front of him, and he says absolutely nothing. His sisters disrespect me too, and he always keeps quiet because he doesn't want to offend his family. I endured so much emotional pain in that house that my own family has begged me never to return. They watched me cry, suffer, and slowly lose myself, and they believe nothing has changed. To make things worse, his siblings are still living with him. I told him clearly that I cannot go back to a home where I have no peace or privacy. I don't want to wake up every day feeling like a stranger in my own marriage. The truth is, I don't even know if I still love this man anymore. Maybe I'm just holding on because I want my daughter to have a complete family. Maybe I'm foolishly hoping that one day he will become the husband I prayed for. But what if he never changes? I'm exhausted emotionally. I'm scared of making the same mistake twice, yet I'm also scared of denying my daughter a chance to grow up with both parents.
