Am I Really Wicked for Holding My Husband to the Rule He Created?

On our wedding night, my husband made one rule that he said would never be broken: no family members—whether from his side or mine—would be allowed to live in or stay in our house. He believed it would help us avoid unnecessary interference in our marriage. Although I wasn't comfortable with it, I agreed because I wanted us to start our marriage on a peaceful note. A few months later, my younger sister came to our town for a job interview. She asked if she could spend just one night at our house before returning home. My husband refused. No matter how much I pleaded with him, he wouldn't change his mind. In the end, I had to beg a neighbor to let my sister sleep at their place. Things became even more painful after I gave birth to our first child through a C-section. I was weak, in pain, and desperately needed help. My mother offered to come and take care of me for a short time, but my husband refused again. He insisted that the rule applied to everyone, and my mother was not allowed to stay with us. I struggled through one of the hardest moments of my life without the support I needed. Now, a few years later, life has taken a different turn. My husband's mother has become seriously ill, and because he is the most financially stable among his siblings, he told me that she would be moving into our house so we could take care of her. I reminded him of the rule he made on our wedding night. I told him that if my sister couldn't stay for one night and my own mother couldn't stay to care for me after major surgery, then the same rule should apply to his mother as well. I refused. Now everyone is calling me wicked, heartless, and unforgiving. They say I should forget the past because she's an elderly woman who needs care. But I can't help feeling that I'm only asking him to live by the same rule he forced me to obey. So, my friends, am I really a bad person for standing by the rule my husband created, or is this simply a case of him expecting a different standard when it affects his own family?
