When My Mother Sent Me Away

I was only 19 when I found out I was pregnant. I was young, scared, and honestly didn’t know what my future would look like. The first person I thought would stand by me was my mother, but instead, when she found out, she was furious. She told me I had disgraced her and brought shame to the family. I will never forget the day she told me to leave the house. I begged her and cried, telling her I was sorry and that I didn’t know what to do. But she didn’t change her mind. I packed the little things I had and walked out with nowhere to go. At 19, pregnant and completely broken, I felt like the whole world had rejected me. The years that followed were not easy. I had to learn how to survive and raise my child while carrying the pain of what happened. There were nights I wished my mother would call, even just to ask if I was okay. I kept hoping that one day she would look for me, forgive me, or at least want to meet her grandchild. But twelve years have passed, and I still haven’t seen her. I have built a life for myself and my child, and from the outside, people probably think I have moved on. The truth is, some wounds don't disappear just because you learn how to live with them. Sometimes I still wonder what would have happened if my mother had hugged me that day instead of sending me away. I don't hate her. She is still my mother, and that is what makes the pain even harder to explain. Twelve years later, I still carry the hurt of being rejected when I needed her the most. I don't know if I would have the courage to knock on her door if I ever found her, but a part of me still wonders: Does a mother ever stop being a mother to her child, even after all these years?
