The Day My Husband Learned to Stop Announcing Good News Too Early
My husband used to report absolutely everything to his mother. I mean everything. If something happened at work, she knew. If we were planning something, she knew. If he was excited about something, somehow his mother would hear about it before I had even finished hearing the full story. I used to tell him that not everything happening in our home needed to leave our home, but he would always laugh and say, “She’s my mother, what’s wrong with telling her?” Then one day, he called his mother to tell her that he was finally going to sign a permanent contract at work. He was extremely excited, and honestly, I was happy for him too because he had been waiting for that opportunity for a long time. We celebrated at home, and almost immediately, he called his mother to share the good news. Yoh… that was the last time he ever announced good news before it actually happened. 😂 That Friday, HR called him into the office and told him there had been some changes at work. They were starting a new rotation, and apparently, he was the one who would be sent home for an entire month. 😭 He came back looking like someone had died. He couldn't sleep properly that whole week because he was stressed and worried about what would happen next. And the permanent contract he had already told his mother about? Yoh… he never even received it. Since that day, my husband has completely changed. He doesn't tell his mother anything until it is officially confirmed, signed and happening. Whenever something good comes up, he now says, “ i can't keep reporting things before they happen.” 😂 Honestly, that experience taught him a lesson. Sometimes you don't need to announce every blessing before it lands. Celebrate quietly, pray over it, make sure it is confirmed, and then tell people. Because the one time you celebrate too early, life can humble you personally. 😂
