Is My Son Being Treated Like an Adult, or Am I the Problem?
My son is 6 years old, in Nursery 3. Almost every week, his teacher calls me to come to the school. Each time, I have to beg my oga at work for permission to leave. I rush down, only to hear the same thing: "Your son is naughty. He is not doing well in class." She has shown me his exercise books. His colouring is rough, he cannot stay inside the lines, he is slow with his work. She even hinted that he might repeat the class. Then she called him a bully, said he is uncontrollable. Honestly, I am beginning to feel she has taken my son personally. ๐ Don't get me wrong. I believe in discipline. If my child is wrong, he should be corrected. But he is SIX. Is this not the age when children are still learning to sit down, hold a pencil, colour and follow instructions? Isn't it the teacher's job to help him grow into those things, not expect him to already be perfect? What hurts me most is the money and stress. Every call means missing work, and in this Naija economy, nobody is paying me to go and stand in a classroom. So I want to ask: Am I wrong to feel she is treating my little boy like a grown man? Or am I the one in denial? Parents and teachers, please be honest with me. Am I overreacting, or should I be worried?
