Is My Neighbour Using Romantic Attention to Avoid Repaying My Money?
I’m a man living alone in a compound, although my girlfriend visits me from time to time. One of my neighbours is a lady in her late twenties who also lives alone. We were never close friends. We only exchanged greetings whenever we crossed paths around the compound, and that was the extent of our relationship. About four months ago, she approached me and asked if I could lend her ₦50,000. She said she had an urgent emergency and promised to return the money the following week. I felt sorry for her situation and decided to help. I gave her my account details and phone number so she could transfer the money back when she was ready. That same evening, she sent me a WhatsApp message thanking me for helping her. What caught my attention was that she ended the message with “hun.” I found it a little unusual because we had never spoken that way before, but I didn’t think much of it. The next day, she sent me a revealing photo of herself. As soon as she noticed I had seen it, she deleted it and claimed it was a mistake. From that point on, she began messaging me regularly. She used pet names like “dear,” “boo,” “babes,” and “hun.” The repayment date came and went, yet she never mentioned the money. Instead, another revealing photo appeared on my phone, and just like before, it was deleted shortly after I viewed it. I chose not to react because I didn’t want to encourage anything. After about four weeks, I finally asked her about the ₦50,000. She apologized and promised to pay me the following week. The next day, she brought food to my apartment, saying she had cooked and wanted me to have some. I thanked her for the gesture, but something about the situation made me uncomfortable, so I never ate it. A few days later, around 9 p.m., she knocked on my door and said she needed help with something on her phone. While I was checking it, she complained about mosquitoes disturbing her room and asked if she could come inside for a while. I agreed. Once inside, she started making romantic advances toward me. I immediately stopped her, explained that I was not interested, and politely asked her to leave. Since that night, she has continued sending messages telling me how much she likes me. Every now and then, she still sends inappropriate photos, and she still hasn’t repaid the ₦50,000 she borrowed from me more than four months ago. I’m honestly confused. Does this woman genuinely have feelings for me, or is she using attraction as a way to avoid paying her debt? I have no interest in pursuing anything with her because I already have a girlfriend. All I want is my money back. If you were in my position, what would you do?
