I'm Scared I'm Losing Myself."
A few years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air. My heart was racing so fast that I genuinely believed I was about to die. My whole body was shaking, and I couldn't understand what was happening to me. My family rushed me to the hospital, thinking it was a heart problem. After several tests, I was told it was an anxiety attack. Later, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. At first, I thought it was something that would go away after a few weeks. I never imagined it would become a battle that would follow me every single day. Since then, I have done almost everything people advised me to do. I've been on different medications, attended therapy sessions, read books about mental health, watched motivational videos, exercised when I could, and even became more committed to my spiritual life. I prayed, fasted, believed, and kept hoping that one morning I would wake up feeling like my old self again. Instead, it feels like I'm slowly getting worse. Some days, I can't even explain what I'm feeling. My heart starts pounding for no reason. I constantly fear something terrible is about to happen, even when everything seems fine. I struggle to sleep, and when I finally do, I'm afraid I'll wake up with another attack. The depression makes me lose interest in things I once enjoyed. Smiling has become exhausting, and pretending that I'm okay is even harder. The most painful part is that many people don't understand. They tell me to "be strong," "stop overthinking," or "just pray more." If it were that simple, I would have been free a long time ago. I'm honestly tired. I'm not giving up, but I feel like I'm fighting a battle that nobody else can see. It's lonely, frustrating, and sometimes I wonder if I'll ever feel normal again. So I'm asking from the bottom of my heart... Has anyone here truly recovered from anxiety and depression after struggling for years? What actually helped you? Was it a particular treatment, a lifestyle change, therapy, medication, faith, or simply time? I'm desperately looking for hope because right now, I feel like I'm losing myself.
