I Regret the Course I Studied in University π
Sometimes I look at my degree certificate and just laugh. Not because I'm happy. Because after everything I went through to get it, that certificate has done absolutely nothing for me. I didn't even get the course I originally wanted. You know how universities will give you another course because you couldn't meet the requirements for your dream course? That was my story. Everybody told me the same thing: "Just accept it." "It's a good course." "You'll thank us later." Well... it's years later and I'm still waiting to thank them. I'm done with school. Done with NYSC. Yet I still can't find a decent job related to what I studied. The painful part? Most of my coursemates are now talking about Master's degrees. Master's? My brother, I haven't even recovered from the first degree. You haven't seen a job with BSc, now you want me to spend more money for MSc? With whose salary? Thank God I later learned some skills outside school. If not, I honestly don't know where I would be today. Sometimes I ask myself a question that annoys me every single time: What exactly did I spend 4 years studying for? Because the course I spent money on, stressed over, graduated with a good grade in, has not improved my life in any meaningful way. Maybe that's why it hurts so much. I didn't fail. I actually did well. And somehow that makes it worse. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't choose that course again. Not for anything. Did anyone else study a course they completely regret today, or am I the only one feeling like I wasted 4 years of my life? π
