I Hate My Job... But I Can't Afford to Quit
Every Sunday evening, I start feeling anxious. Not because anything bad has happened. But because I know Monday morning is coming. I honestly hate my job. I know some people will say I should just resign. If only it were that simple. I have rent to pay. Parents who sometimes depend on me. Younger siblings who still call me when they need help. Bills don't stop because you're unhappy. I've been in this job for almost four years now. The pay isn't great. The workload keeps increasing. My boss expects us to be available even after working hours. Sometimes I reply to office messages at 11 p.m. Weekends don't even feel like weekends anymore. I've missed birthdays. Family events. Even my own peace of mind. The worst part is waking up every morning with zero motivation. There are days I sit in my car outside the office for ten minutes just trying to convince myself to go inside. I've applied for other jobs. I've attended interviews. Some never replied. Some offered even less than what I'm earning now. So I stay. Not because I love the job... But because I need the salary. People think having a job means you've made it. What they don't see is how mentally exhausted some of us have become. Sometimes I wonder if I'm wasting the best years of my life. Other times I remind myself that unemployment isn't easy either. So I'm stuck between two fears. The fear of staying... And the fear of leaving. If you've ever been in this situation... How did you know it was finally time to quit? Or did you stay until something better came along?
Or did you stay until something better came along?
