I Complimented My Female Colleague Once, Now She Wants a Date
I’m a woman, and I have a female colleague at work who has always been nice to me. One day, she came to the office looking exceptionally beautiful, so I casually told her, “You look really good today.” That was all. No flirting, no touching, no hidden meaning. I honestly thought it was just an ordinary compliment between two colleagues. But since that day, her attitude towards me has changed. She now calls me almost every morning just to check on me. She comes to my office to gist with me, calls again in the afternoon asking if we should have lunch together, and in the evening she wants to know whether I got home safely. Sometimes, after the call, we continue chatting until late at night. At first, I found it sweet, but now it is becoming a bit too much. The weekend visits are what made me start wondering. She has started suggesting that she come over, but I keep giving excuses because I don't want to encourage something I'm not sure about. Then yesterday, she asked me directly if we could go on a date. She told me to choose the place and time. I was honestly speechless because I kept thinking, “Is this still about the compliment I gave you?” The truth is, I don't have anything against her, but I’m beginning to feel uncomfortable with the attention. I also don't want to embarrass her or accuse her of something she may not even mean. But the way things are going, it is beginning to look like the colours of the rainbow, and I'm honestly confused. Could she simply be overly friendly, or is she trying to tell me something without saying it directly? And how do I set boundaries without making things awkward between us at work?
