MY BEST FRIEND HUMILIATED ME BEFORE HER WEDDING, THEN TWO YEARS LATER SHE CAME BACK WITH A BABY
A day before my best friend’s wedding, she called me and said something I will never forget: “I’m sorry, but I’ve decided to change my chief bridesmaid.” I thought she was joking. I even laughed because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I had been with her through the planning, helped her with expenses, followed her to meetings, and practically became her personal assistant throughout the wedding preparations. Then, just 24 hours before the wedding, she replaced me without giving me a proper explanation. I was devastated, but I didn't cause a scene. I didn't fight her or embarrass her. I simply told her, “It's your wedding. Do whatever makes you happy.” I attended the wedding, smiled for pictures and pretended everything was fine. But that day quietly killed something inside me. After the wedding, I stopped forcing the friendship. We went from talking every day to barely knowing what was happening in each other's lives. For almost two years, there was complete silence between us. Then one night, while I was scrolling through WhatsApp, her message suddenly appeared: “I have a baby girl. She came just last night.” I stared at the message and, honestly, the first thing that came to my mind was, “And so? Should I come and breastfeed her for you?” I almost laughed at myself. But I didn't send it. Instead, I dropped my phone and told myself, “You haven't healed. Don't embarrass yourself because you're still angry.” I deliberately didn't reply. I didn't congratulate her. I didn't ask about the baby. I didn't even open the message again. A few hours later, she sent another message: “I know you're not happy for me, but that's fine. I don't even know why I'm telling you this.” That was when I became angry. Because after everything that happened, how could she suddenly expect me to celebrate such a huge moment with her as if nothing had happened? I typed a long reply, deleted it, typed another one, deleted that too. Then I finally decided to tell her exactly how I felt. I reminded her of what she did to me the day before her wedding and told her that she had no idea how deeply it had affected me. Her response came almost immediately. And what she said made me realize that I may have been angry at the wrong person for two whole years. She said, “I didn't remove you because I wanted to. Your replacement wasn't my decision. And if you really want to know why I did it, ask the person you trusted most at that wedding.” Till today, I haven't asked. Because the person she mentioned was someone I never suspected. Would you ask who it was, or leave the past buried forever?
