Am I Wrong for Blaming My Parents?
Good morning all. This my first time In this platform I have an issue, I have been blaming my parents for my life… and I don’t know how to stop Please, I need genuine advice because this has been weighing heavily on my heart for years. Is it wrong to blame your parents for your struggles, your suffering, or the life you ended up living? Or is that just an excuse people use when things don't work out? I'm a young man in my mid-twenties, and hardship has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Since I was about seven years old, life has been a constant struggle. The only reason I managed to finish senior high school was because I refused to give up. I worked hard, stayed determined, and held on to my love for education, even when everything around me seemed to be falling apart. The painful part is that I truly love my parents, especially my mother. As they've grown older, my love and respect for them have only increased. But at the same time, I can't stop wondering if my life would have been completely different if they had been able to give me the opportunities I needed. I know they tried. I know they sacrificed. I know they did the best they could with what they had. Yet somehow, those thoughts keep turning into resentment. These days, I find myself getting irritated with them over the smallest things. Sometimes I hate that I feel this way because they don't deserve it, but I can't seem to control it. Growing up, everyone believed I had so much potential. Teachers, neighbors, relatives—they all said I would become someone great. I had dreams, talent, and ambition. But because of our financial situation and the lack of opportunities, many of those dreams slowly slipped away. Today, my life is nothing like I imagined. I can't even face some of my former classmates anymore. They've built successful careers, started businesses, and seem to be moving forward in life while I feel completely stuck. Whenever I see some of them coming, I avoid them or pretend not to notice because I'm ashamed. Ashamed of the kind of work I do. Ashamed of where I am in life. Ashamed of how much the struggle has changed my appearance, my confidence, and even the way I see myself. The truth is, I don't want to keep blaming my parents. Deep down, I know they loved me and did everything they possibly could. If they had more, they would have given me more. But these thoughts refuse to leave my mind. It's like carrying a heavy burden that I can't put down. A part of me feels guilty for blaming them, while another part keeps asking, "What if my life would have been different?" I'm tired of fighting these emotions alone. Please, if you've ever struggled with feelings like this, how did you overcome them? How did you forgive, heal, and stop living in the past? I genuinely need your advice.
