I Almost Took Revenge on My Ex Through His Own Father

Many years ago, my ex-boyfriend broke up with me, and the reason still hurts me whenever I remember it. It wasn't because I cheated. It wasn't because I treated him badly. Apparently, his mother believed that my family background was not good enough for their family. According to her, I wasn't the kind of girl her son should end up with. My ex eventually dumped me, and I was completely heartbroken. I was young, angry and humiliated. What hurt me the most was the way his mother acted like her family was perfect while looking down on mine as if we were beneath them. Then, a few weeks later, something happened that completely changed the direction of my anger. I was scrolling through a dating app when I suddenly came across a familiar face. It was my ex's father. At first, I thought maybe I was mistaken. As far as I knew, his parents were still married. I kept looking at the profile, trying to convince myself that it couldn't possibly be him. So, out of curiosity and suspicion, I matched with him just to confirm his identity. And unfortunately, it really was him. The more we talked, the more something dark started growing inside me. I began flirting with him. At first, I told myself I was only trying to understand what he was doing on the app. But deep down, I knew exactly what I was doing. I wanted revenge. His mother had made me feel like my family wasn't good enough to be associated with hers. She had played a huge role in destroying my relationship and my happiness. Meanwhile, there I was, talking to the husband of the same woman who acted like her family was so perfect and superior. A part of me wanted her to feel the same pain and humiliation I felt. I started thinking, "So this is the perfect family you were so proud of? This is the family you said I wasn't good enough for?" Things got worse when his father and I arranged to meet in person. I honestly don't know what I thought was going to happen. I was young, angry and acting from a place of deep resentment. I wasn't thinking about consequences. I just wanted to hurt the people who had hurt me. But on the day we were supposed to meet, reality finally hit me. I suddenly looked at everything I was doing and thought, "What exactly am I trying to achieve?" My ex hurt me, and his mother treated me badly, but was destroying an entire family really going to heal me? Was getting revenge going to undo my heartbreak? The answer was no. I cancelled the meeting immediately and blocked his father everywhere. Till today, nobody in that family knows what almost happened. Sometimes when I remember it, I'm honestly shocked at how close I came to doing something that could have caused serious damage to so many lives. I was hurt, and I allowed that hurt to turn into anger. For a brief moment, revenge felt like justice. But thankfully, I came to my senses before I crossed a line I probably would have regretted for the rest of my life. Sometimes heartbreak can make you want to become someone you don't even recognise. And sometimes, walking away is the biggest revenge you can give yourself.
